Get ready for a great day on Lake Anna focused on enjoying the lake using non-gasoline powered craft like kayaks, paddleboards and canoes. On September 17, paddlers from all over the region are invited to the first annual PaddleFest event held on Lake Anna.
Even if you don’t make it to PaddleFest Lake Anna 2011, you can show your paddle pride AND support those in need by purchasing a PaddleFest t-shirt. Organizers have announced that $2 from the sale of every PaddleFest shirt will be donated to the Fluvanna/Louisa Housing Foundation to help those with earthquake damaged homes.
“We are having a fun day on Lake Anna that will hopefully help folks forget about their troubles and felt it was only right to try and aid those that might appreciate a helping hand after the earthquake,” noted event organizer C.C. McCotter of Lake Anna Outfitters.
“We want to show folks that power boating is not the only way to enjoy the lake. Paddling has become quite popular here and PaddleFest will be a day to celebrate paddle sports and show others another side of the Lake Anna lifestyle,” says host Arthur McKenney.
PaddleFest will be held at the McKenny lakeside home at 651 Bear Castle Drive, Bumpass, VA 23024. The expansive grounds and beach combine for an awesome paddle-up venue, plus there’s plenty of parking for those that arrive by land.
The event will be sponsored by Lake Anna Life Magazine, Lake Anna Winery, the Lake Anna Paddle Club and Lake Anna Outfitters. There will be wine tastings, LKA Wear for sale (including an event t-shirt), kayak and paddleboard demos and something dubbed Paddle Games, sure to be a big hit.
“Lake Anna Paddle Club members will organize the Paddle Games including a kayak slalom race, kayak drag race, kayak tug-o-war, paddleboard race, kayak football, kayak dodgeball and a kid’s kayak scavanger hunt,” notes C.C. McCotter of Lake Anna Life. “For those that want to watch from the shore, we’ll have corn hole and washers tournaments. Bring your family and friends and see how much fun you will have.”
Coolers are permitted and the Louisa Gators Swim Team will offer concession items. Hours for the day are from 9 am to 3 pm.
